Daniel crept down the dark, candle-lit corridor, careful not to spill a drop of seawater from the large vase in his arms. The weight of it had been perfectly manageable when he was walking away from the shore, but now his arms were beginning to ache.
Still, it would be worth it. He was lucky to have found the vase tucked away in a storage room, too dusty for anyone to miss it. Now the only matter was ensuring that in the morning he ordered to servants to stay out of his chamber.
At least until he found a way to explain the presence of his new guest without risking her being taken away.
The door gave a sharp creak as Daniel pushed it open.
